Job Description
The Bonga Control Room Operators (CRO) oversee the FPSO operations shift team, ensuring the production, processing, and delivery of oil and gas meet specified quantity and quality standards. They manage production systems within design limits to optimize efficiency and maintain operational safety.
As a Control Room Operator, you will contribute to Shell’s Powering Progress strategy by operating production system equipment and controls safely and efficiently, ensuring plant availability and effective GHG emissions management.
The CRO will collaborate with Area Authorities, Shift Supervisors, Operations Supervisors, Maintenance Technicians, Marine Officers, and Technical Custodian Instruments to coordinate the safe operation of Bonga production systems.
Production Systems:
- Subsea Wellheads
- Oil Process
- Gas Process
- Power and Utilities Process
- Water Injection
CROs are responsible for operating these systems within limits, remotely monitoring, starting up, controlling, and shutting them down as needed to maintain safe operations and achieve production targets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Control, monitor, and take necessary actions to meet production targets.
- Coordinate safe operation and maintenance of FPSO activities and equipment.
- Respond to emergencies as required.
- Use Public Address (PA) systems to communicate abnormal process or plant conditions.
- Make informed decisions on plant operations and safety measures in abnormal situations.
- Maintain oil and gas production within advised well integrity limitations.
- Direct Operations Technicians and Maintenance Technicians during plant start-up to ensure safety and efficiency.
- Execute work in accordance with the Permit to Work (PTW) system.
- Verify isolation status of ESD and fire and gas inhibits at shift start and record in the inhibit log.
- Communicate significant export changes to the Production Management Centre (PMC) and other offshore installations.
- Monitor potable water and diesel stocks using the DCS and resolve discrepancies as needed.
- Control access to the Control Room to ensure optimal monitoring conditions.
- Conduct well, production, and valve leak-off tests per SAP routine.
- Maintain a detailed Control Log.
- Perform shift handovers with a written and verbal log of significant events for operational continuity.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant operational experience.
- National Diploma (ND) or equivalent in a relevant engineering field.
- Hands-on experience with production systems.
- Strong understanding of equipment interrelationships in production systems.
- Ability to manage complex systems and handle abnormal situations.
- Troubleshooting and diagnostic skills for live production systems.
- Proficiency in Computerized Maintenance Management Systems, preferably SAP.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Competence in safe work practices in an industrial setting.
- Willingness to undergo relevant safety training (e.g., BOSIET).
